Matthew 'Matt' Jarvis is a Canadian professional poker player from Surrey, British Columbia, known for his November Nine appearance in the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event. He earned his first World Series of Poker bracelet at the 2011 World Series of Poker.[1]

Career[edit]

In 2010, he opted not to participate in most of the preliminary World Series of Poker (WSOP) events. Instead, he participated in several no limit hold 'em events at the June 2010 Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza III, placing in the money in three of them.[2][3][4] At the 7,319-player 2010 World Series of Poker US$10,000 World Championship No Limit Hold'em Event 57 (2010 WSOP Main Event), he entered the final table fifth in chips.[5][6] During the interim between the main summer WSOP events and the November Nine final table he earned a Canadian Open Poker Championship victory in the August 23, 2010 64-player CA$4,600 No Limit Hold'em - Heads-Up Championship, earning CA$100,000.[7] He also had an in the money finish with a 40th place in the September 17, 2010 World Series of Poker Europe 582-player GB£1,075 No Limit Hold’em Event 3 for a prize of GB£2,747.[8] At his November Nine appearance at the final table of the 2010 WSOP Main Event he placed 8th, earning US$1,045,743 for his first WSOP in the money finish. He was eliminated after getting 99 all-in preflop, falling behind on the flop and turning a full house, but losing to a higher rivered full house against Michael Mizrachi's AQ when the cards ran Q8Q9A.[9]

Jarvis plays online under the name Jarfish (with variations on the upper and lower cases at different poker networks).[10] He has numerous five-figure online victories and in 2011 established his online career high prize with a victory in the 387-player July 23, 2011 $2000+100 Absolute Poker - UBOC16 $750K GTD High Roller No Limit Hold 'em Tournament for a prize of $193,500.[11]

Jarvis earned his first World Series of Poker Bracelet at by winning the 732-player $5,000 2011 No-Limit Hold'em / Six Handed Event 40 for a prize of US$808,538.[12] It was his tenth career WSOP event and the victory made him the third November Nine player (after Eric Buchman and Phil Ivey) to win a bracelet in the following year's WSOP.[13]

Jason Koon (born August 14, 1985) is an American professional poker player from Weston, West Virginia known for his accomplishments in live and online poker tournaments.

Early life[edit]

Koon graduated from Lewis County High School in 2003 and then attended West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. There he received his Masters in Business Administration and Finance. He declared he started to play poker following an injury. To avoid boredom, his roommate taught him Texas Hold'Em, and Jason Koon realized he could make a lot of money.[1]

Poker career[edit]

Koon began playing poker in 2006 during college. He played online under the alias JAKoon1985 on PokerStars and NovaSky on Full Tilt Poker. In April 2009, he won a tournament in the Spring Championship of Online Poker earning over $300,000 prize money. Since 2008, Koon has participated in live tournaments.

Koon played in his first WSOP in 2009 where he cashed twice. In 2010, Koon finished 4th in the World Poker Tour main event at the Bellagio for $225,000.

In 2011, Koon chopped a Full Tilt Poker 'FTOPS' event that had 11,343 runners for $458,550. [2]

In 2012, Koon played in the high roller event at the Bahamas EPT event earning over $270,000. At the 2012 WSOP Koon finish 2nd in the $3,000 No Limit Hold'em/Pot Limit Omaha - Heads-Up event earning $128,660.[3]

In 2013, Koon finished runner up to David Peters in the $10,000 Bellagio Cup earning $316,000.[4]

In 2015, Koon turned $100 into $110,820 after 18 hours of play finishing third in a low buy in event at the SCOOP.[5]

In 2016, Koon won Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open for $1,000,000. He defeated Seth Davies in heads up.[6]

Koon won a large pot off Doug Polk in the hybrid cash game on Poker After Dark.[7]

Koon's most lucrative tournament win to date was in Triton Poker's 2018 Super High Roller Series Montenegro in Budva. In a short-deck ante-only tournament with a HK$1 million buy-in (US$127,000 at tournament time) and 103 entrants, he won HK$28,102,000 (US$3,579,914), defeating Xuan Tan in heads-up play.[8]

In August 2019 He finished 2nd in the Event 3 of London Triton Poker Super High Roller Series (£ 50,000 No Limit Hold'em - 8 Handed) for £ 907,000.[9]

As of November 2019, Koon's total live tournament earnings exceed $30,300,000. He has won 20 live titles and stands 8th in the world all-time money list.[10][11]
